Common Uses

This medicine is a stimulant combination used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention-deficit disorder without hyperactivity (ADD). It also is used to treat narcolepsy (sudden and uncontrollable attacks of drowsiness and sleep). This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before Using

WARNING: Amphetamine-type medications can be habit-forming. Use only as directed. With prolonged use, drug dependence may occur (withdrawl symptoms may occur after stopping drug). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking furazolidone or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, nortriptyline), blood pressure medicine (e.g., beta-blockers), other stimulant medications (e.g., methylphenidate), guanethidine, meperidine, or urinary alkalinizers. Certain foods and drugs can affect the amount of acid in your stomach/intestine and increase or decrease (depending on the drug) the absorption of this medicine. Tell your doctor if you take any of these products: fruit juices, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, sodium acid phosphate, anti-ulcer medicine (e.g., H2 blockers such as famotidine and ranitidine, PPI's such as omeprazole and lansoprazole), antacids, methenamine, and acetazolamide. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have heart or blood vessel-related disease (e.g., arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease), severe high blood pressure, over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism), eye problems, (e.g., glaucoma), emotional instability, history of drug abuse. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions such as other mental/mood problems (e.g., psychological disorders), growth problems, high blood pressure, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., ticks Tourette's syndrome), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE YOUR LAST DOSE OF THE DAY 4 to 6 hours before bedtime unless your doctor tells you differently. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

Cautions

DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. Avoid drinking large amounts of beverages containing caffeine (e.g., coffee, tea, colas). Caffeine can increase the side effects of this medicine. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. Certain laboratory test results (e.g., corticosteroid levels) may be affected by this medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible side effects

SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include dry mouth, unpleasant taste, upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, constipation, nervousness, restlessness, dizziness, or difficulty sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience vomiting, stomach pain, fever, unusual weakness or tiredness, severe headaches, or change in sexual ability or desire. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience unusually fast heartbeat, mental/mood changes, blurred vision, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., tics, tremors), or chest pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

If you take too much
